Presentation at NYYC

Another successful presentation, this time at the New York Yacht Club (Newport) on the 20th of October. In attendance were yachting writer John Rousmaniere, who wrote the introduction to Dick’s book; Dick’s long time friend Sandy Weld; plus Harry Anderson, the éminence grise of American yachting. As Dick remarks: “Never heard so many questions asked after a lecture at the NYYC.” Congratulations Dick and a very big thank you to the NYYC for hosting such an enjoyable event!

Presentation at RORC

Dick’s presentation at the Royal Ocean Racing Club in London was a success, featuring a fantastic turnout and a wonderful reception!

Note the photo of Dick at the entrance to the ‘Fastnet Room’. It was here that he spent many hours helping to create the International Offshore Racing Rule (IOR) during the late 1960s.

Dick and Sandy Weld

Dick presents the book to long time friend Sandy Weld. Sandy has been one of the most important figures  in Dick’s sailing career and features countless times in the book. He is also the author of The Leading Edge, which details his experiences in ocean racing with Dick.

The Lecture Circuit Begins!

Following his success at the Royal Western Yacht Club, Dick will be giving presentations to promote his book at both the RORC (Royal Ocean Racing Club) in London (October 1st) and at the New York Yacht Club in Newport, RI (October 20th).

50 Years of TINA – Yachting Classique

Dick’s second design after RABBIT was TINA. Dick skippered TINA to win the 1966 One Ton Cup in Copenhagen. To celebrate 50 years of TINA, Yachting Classique magazine ran a cover story on her featuring the TINA sister ship PERSEPHONE (ex-ZEEHAAS, ex-GAZELA).

A Review from Bob Perry

Once employed by Dick and now a successful yacht designer himself, Bob Perry writes of In the Golden Age:

“Beautifully illustrated with photos and technical drawings this has to be one of the very best books on yachts and yacht design I have ever read. It’s a fun book to read as it takes you, step by step through the world of designing racing yachts at the highest level.”
